Sustainable HEP

After a recent workshop on "Sustainable High Energy Physics," there is a forward-looking statement to promote sustainability in our scientific community. Below we copied the message from the organizers of the activity, and we hope you consider supporting their statement.

-------------------------

Dear colleagues,

During the past three days, we have conducted the workshop “Sustainable High Energy Physics” in virtual space. The aim of this workshop was to initiate a community discussion on how to align the scientific operations within this particular subfield of physics with requirements of climate sustainability, in particular with the Paris Climate Agreement.

We have drafted a workshop statement as a call towards implementing the goal of sustainability, please see

https://indico.cern.ch/event/1004432/page/22786-closing-statement

for the actual text. Many workshop participants have already signed the statement, but the call is in fact addressed to the entire High Energy Physics community. Therefore, we would now like to extend the invitation to co-sign the statement to all researchers in High Energy Physics and related fields of science.

The statement can be signed until 25 July 2021 via the form here

For background information on the workshop, as well as materials, please see: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1004432/ .

We encourage you to forward this call to your colleagues. The primary target group is researchers from High Energy Physics and related fields, but we also welcome signatures from individuals who relate themselves to science in general.

Many thanks for your attention.

Best Regards,

Niklas Beisert (ETH Zürich)

Valerie Domcke (CERN/EPFL)

Astrid Eichhorn (CP3-Origins, University of Southern Denmark)

Kai Schmitz (CERN)
