The Physics Department of Vrije Universiteit Brussel invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor position in theoretical high-energy physics. The successful candidate will join the Theoretical Physics group (https://we.vub.ac.be/nl/theoretical-particle-physics), which is part of VUB’s High-Energy Physics Research Center (https://hep.research.vub.be). In this research center, an additional opening has been simultaneously launched in the area of experimental high-energy physics.

Candidates must have an outstanding record of formal theoretical research on fundamental problems in gravity and/or quantum field theory.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct an internationally recognized independent research program in this area, which includes producing high-quality publications, giving conference and seminar talks, acquiring research funding, supervising PhD students and postdocs, and being involved in leading the research group.

TEACHING

Candidates must have competencies for high-quality teaching at bachelor’s and master’s levels. During the initial five years, the successful candidate will gradually build, in consultation with the Physics Department, a teaching portfolio which includes the responsibility for typically four 6 ECTS courses per year and the supervision of bachelor’s and master’s students.
