Applications are invited for an STFC-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate position to join the Manchester particle theory group, which leads the Lancaster, Manchester & Sheffield Consortium for Fundamental Physics. The post will be available from October 2020 for a period of two years. You should have, or be about to obtain, a PhD (or equivalent) in theoretical particle physics or a related discipline and research interests which match those of the consortium in the area of QCD physics.

The Manchester particle theory group consists of six academics: Richard Battye, Fedor Bezrukov, Mrinal Dasgupta, Jeff Forshaw, Apostolos Pilaftsis and Mike Seymour.

Dasgupta, Forshaw and Seymour lead the programme in QCD and Collider Physics. Dasgupta works on analytic resummation and its connection to parton showers, QCD jets and their substructure and analytical approaches to non-perturbative effects in QCD. Forshaw works on various aspects of perturbative QCD including developing and implementing an amplitude-level shower algorithm that is able to go beyond leading Nc. Seymour also works on all-order QCD calculations and particularly their implementation into Monte Carlo event generators, as well as their implications for non-perturbative corrections.

The theory group is an integral part of the Manchester Particle Physics Research Group whose experimenters are members of the ATLAS, LHCb, g-2, SuperNEMO, DUNE and SBN experiments and perform detector R&D towards the next generation of experiments. The group is also strong in Cosmology and BSM physics. The successful applicant would work primarily in QCD and Collider Physics, but would have the opportunity to collaborate also in these areas.

The School is strongly committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for gender equality in higher education. The School holds a Silver Award which recognises their good practice in relation to gender; including flexible working arrangements, family-friendly policies, and support to allow staff achieve a good work-life balance. We particularly welcome applications from women for this post. All appointment will be made on merit. For further information, please visit:
